As a home owner (or prospective home owner), you know that to maintain a home’s value it is important that maintenance issues are addressed on a regular basis.

If you are a first time home owner and/or intimated by home maintenance issues, there is help that you may not know exists.  The Adult and Community Education division of  Fairfax County Public Schools sends out a mailing to residents three times a year with classes and programs offered at schools, centers, libraries and other locations in the county.  The home maintenance classes are designed to help students decide whether to perform simple repairs and maintenance themselves or whether to call a professional.

The most recent Fall issue contains a series of classes entitled “Elementary Home Maintenance For The Beginner.”  The series includes 5 classes in the following areas:  Ceramic Tile, Drywall, Painting, Plumbing, and Screening.  The sessions are 4.5 hours long and cost $125 a course which includes a $26 user fee.

Classes start in October, so you still have plenty of time to register.  Go to http://www.fcps.edu and click  “Adult & Community Education”  on the left menu to find a class and register.
